Milledgeville Wedding
Milledgeville is a city in Baldwin County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is the county seat of Baldwin County. It is northeast of Macon, between Eatonton and Hardwick along U.S. Highway 441 on the banks of the Oconee River. It was the capital of Georgia for some time, notably during the Civil War. The population was 18,757 at the 2000 census. Milledgeville was named after Georgia governor John Milledge, and was laid out at the start of the 19th century to be the new centrally located capital of the State of Georgia. It served as the state capital from 1804 to 1868. Milledgeville is located at 33516N, 83140W (33.087755, -83.233401)GR1 and is 301 feet above sea level.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 52.4 km (20.2 mi). 51.7 km (20.0 mi) of it is land and 0.7 km (0.3 mi) of it (1.33%) is water.
Milledgeville is located on the Fall line. The Oconee River flows just east of downtown. Lake Sinclair, a man-made lake, is just north of Milledgeville on the border of Baldwin and Putnam counties .
